BJP announced Lucknow seats: Aparna Yadav, Rita Bahuguna’s sons left out

Polling in UP will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7.

Lucknow:

After a long discussion, the BJP today announced candidates for all the nine seats in Lucknow. High-profile candidates from capital Lucknow, Aparna Yadav, daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party patriarch and former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, and Mayank Joshi, son of BJP MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi, were both not on the list.

Former Enforcement Directorate officer Rajeshwar Singh, whose voluntary retirement was accepted by the central government today, has been given a party ticket from Sarojini Nagar assembly seat. State’s Minister of State for Women’s Welfare Swati Singh and her husband Dayashankar Singh both have their eyes on this seat.

The high-profile Lucknow Cantonment seat, where both Ms. Yadav and Mr. Joshi were hoping to be nominated, has been given to Minister of State Brijesh Pathak. It is considered a safe seat for the party. In the last elections, Rita Bahuguna Joshi defeated Aparna Yadav in this seat.

The BJP had won eight of the nine seats in Lucknow in the last state elections.

Another Minister of State Ashutosh Tandon has been given ticket from Lucknow East.

Rajneesh Gupta has been declared as the candidate from Lucknow Central.

Polling will be held in the state in seven phases from February 10 to March 7.
