“BJP-free South India”: M Kharge’s Swipe After Karnataka Win

Bengaluru:

Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party after its landslide victory in the Karnataka assembly elections, Congress president M Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said those who wanted a “Congress-free India” had to face a “BJP-free South India”.

Taking a dig at the BJP, Mr Kharge said that arrogant statements will no longer work and the suffering of the people should be understood.

“Those who wanted to make ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ (Congress-free India) spoke many things against us, but today one thing has become true and that is ‘BJP-mukt South India’.” Press conference.

Mr. Kharge cautioned the Congress leaders that they should work with utmost humility and stay connected to the ground. He termed the party’s victory in the May 10 election as a “victory of the people” and not of an individual.

“After 35 years, we have got such a massive victory. This is what we should remember. We won because we all won together, which would not have been possible otherwise,” Kharge said.

He underlined that this victory is the result of collective leadership.

Kharge said, “Because we worked together, we won. If we had fallen apart, we would have been in the same position as we were last time (2018).”
