BJP has given me everything, will continue to do my duty with devotion: Biplab Deb

Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday said the BJP has given him everything and he will continue to perform the duties assigned by the party with utmost devotion. Deb said his successor Manik Saha was a “corruption-free man and a gentleman in the true sense” and hoped that the new chief minister would lead the state towards development under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I am a BJP worker (activist). I have got everything from party to state in-charge to chief minister in a very short time. Whatever responsibility the party gives me in future, I will discharge my duties with full devotion. Responding to a journalist’s statement that people were shocked by his sudden resignation, Deb said, “When I became the chief minister, people were also shocked. They will soon see me in a new role.” Deb, who led the BJP to a landslide victory in 2018 by ending Left Front rule, wished Saha all the best.

“Manik Saha is truly a gentleman. He is a corruption free person. I hope he will take the state forward towards development under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will be able to lead the government successfully like I did for more than four years,” he said. Eleven MLAs on Monday took oath as cabinet ministers of the new government led by Manik Saha in Tripura.

Governor SN Arya administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed ministers of the BJP-IPFT coalition government at the Raj Bhavan here. The MLAs who took oath in the cabinet are Jishnu Dev Verma, Ratan Lal Nath, Pranjit Singha Roy, Manoj Kanti Deb, Santana Chakma, Ram Prasad Paul, Bhagwan Das, Sushant Chaudhary, Ram Pada Jamatia all from BJP and NC Debbarma. Prem Kumar Reang of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT).

Saha, Deb and Union ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Pratima Bhowmik were present at the swearing-in ceremony. Government sources said portfolios of cabinet ministers would be announced later.

Of the 11 ministers, BJP’s Ram Pada Jamatia and Prem Kumar Reang (IPFT) were the only ones who were not in the Biplab Kumar Deb-led cabinet. Deb expressed hope that Reang would act as the tribe’s representative in the future.
