Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday accused BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, of demanding ‘Governor’s rule’ in the state and said people know that these leaders have always been ‘anti-Punjab’.

The AAP government led by Mr. Mann has been the target of the opposition, which has been alleging deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The Chief Minister is also at loggerheads with Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

Last week, the governor indicated that he was in no hurry to convene the budget session of the assembly, and the situation worsened when he reminded the chief minister about his “insulting response” to a letter from the Raj Bhavan.

Mr Purohit’s letter to Mann came two days after the Punjab cabinet decided to convene the assembly session from March 3 and requested the governor to convene the house.

Meanwhile, Punjab BJP leader Fateh Jung Bajwa demanded governor’s rule in Punjab, attacking the AAP government on various issues including the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

“Considering the present situation, our party demands that governor’s rule should be imposed in Punjab,” Bajwa said here on Monday. He accused you of not being able to run the state.

He said the state government is talking about attracting investment from other states, but given the current law and order situation, “existing industries are afraid of leaving”.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal also attacked the AAP government on the law and order issue. “No one is safe in today’s Punjab,” Badal said in a statement.
