The West Bengal BJP unit on Wednesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of insulting the national anthem by singing an incomplete anthem. While singing the national anthem during a press conference in Mumbai, Mamta Banerjee did not complete the national anthem and sat in the middle.

“Mamata Banerjee first sat, then stood up and stopped singing India’s national anthem for half. Today, as a chief minister, she has insulted the culture of Bengal, the national anthem and the country and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore!” West Bengal BJP unit tweeted.

Minutes after this conference, several political leaders pulled up Banerjee for the gesture.

BJP leader Amit Malviya tweeted, “Our national anthem is one of the most powerful expressions of our national identity. Least people holding public office can’t downplay it. Here’s a distorted version of our national anthem sung by Bengal CM Version. Is India’s opposition so proud and devoid of patriotism?”.

BJP West Bengal President Dr Sukanta Majumdar tweeted, “The CM of Bengal @MamataOfficial insults the National Anthem at a gathering in Mumbai over a Constitution post. Does she not know proper National Anthem etiquette or is she intentionally insulting?.

Maharashtra BJP leader Prateek Karpe tweeted, “Isn’t this disrespecting the national anthem? What were so called intellectuals doing when CM @MamataOfficial started sitting and started the national anthem. Not only this, then she went ahead and suddenly stopped her in between.

BJP MP from Darjeeling Parliamentary Constituency Raju Bista said, “It is very sad! The Chief Minister representing Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s state today made fun of our national anthem. #Shameful.

BJP Yuva Morcha national president Tejashwi Surya tweeted, “Here we have a chief minister who fails to respect our national anthem. It is a lot these days to expect opposition parties to respect India and its values. This reprehensible behavior of a constitutional authority is extremely shameful and condemnable.”

Later, Banerjee spoke to reporters and slammed the UPA, “What is UPA? There is no UPA,” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said after meeting Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The TMC leader’s statement on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was made during her three-day visit to the Maharashtra capital, during which she is meeting leaders of the NCP and Shiv Sena.
