BJP leader Joy Banerjee quits party, says ‘will not tolerate more neglect’

Actor-turned-BJP leader Joy Banerjee on Saturday said she has decided to resign from the primary membership of the party after “facing neglect” in recent years. Banerjee, who joined the BJP in 2014 and was unsuccessful in the Lok Sabha elections twice, also said that she has written to the prime minister. Narendra Modi, informed him about his decision to break all ties with the saffron party.

“I want to work for the common people and it is not possible if I continue to be a part of the BJP,” he told reporters. Noting that he has been dropped from the BJP’s national executive, Banerjee further said, “My security was also snatched away by the central leadership. I am not a new member, I joined the party in 2014.

“I told Narendra Modi in 2017 that I wanted to do more for the organisation. But there was no response. I will not tolerate further neglect.” Asked if she has any plans to join the Trinamool Congress, Banerjee said she has not taken any such decision yet.

“All I know is that I want to work for people,” he said.
