BJP leader’s request on plan to name airport after BS Yeddyurappa

Veteran BJP leader BS Yediyurappa has requested the Karnataka government to name the upcoming airport in Shivamogga after any famous personality from the state.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, after inspecting the ongoing work of the airport at Sogne in Shivamogga on 20 April, had announced that it would be named after the former chief minister, and would send a proposal in this regard to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. . ,

Mr. Yediyurappa has written a letter to Bommai in this regard on April 24.

Yediyurappa said, “I am impressed by Chief Minister Bommai’s decision to name the Shivamogga airport after me. With all humility, I request the government to name the airport after any illustrious personality of Karnataka.” , which would be a fitting tribute to his contribution.” A tweet with a copy of the letter.

There was some opposition to the government’s decision to name the airport after a state BJP leader, with some including those from the opposition pointing out that several prominent personalities of the district deserve respect.

Shivamogga is Yeddyurappa’s political base, he is an MLA from Shikaripura assembly constituency in the district, while his elder son BY Raghavendra is an MP from Shivamogga parliamentary constituency.

Yediyurappa in his letter thanking the Chief Minister for the assurance of releasing the funds immediately for speedy completion of the airport work and expressing his gratitude to him and other leaders in his name, Yediyurappa in his letter said That many were patriots and visionaries. Those who have contributed to the development of the country and their contribution is very less in comparison to them.

“I am filled with a sense of gratitude just for being able to serve the people who have consistently supported and nurtured me. So I am of the opinion that naming the new airport after my name is not appropriate. So please on the judgment Please reconsider and after discussing it at the right forum, I request you to name the airport after any great personality who has contributed to the development of the country, state and history.”

Shivamogga Airport in Karnataka will have the second longest runway after Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.

The airport with international standard facilities will be inaugurated in December this year.
