Moradabad police had gone to Udham Singh Nagar to arrest the criminal who was rewarded 50 thousand rupees.

Gurpreet Kaur, wife of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gurtaj Bhullar, was shot dead during a shootout in Uttarakhand’s Jaspur on Wednesday. An operation was going on in the area under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Police to nab the mining mafia Zafar. When Moradabad police entered Jaspur to capture Zafar, a fight broke out, in which two police officers were shot, and Gurpreet Kaur died.

Soon after, people started protesting against the police team and villagers took four personnel hostage.

According to the Uttarakhand Police, the Moradabad Police had gone to Udham Singh Nagar to arrest the criminal with a reward of Rs 50,000. “The accused is a wanted criminal carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. He fled from there (Bharatpur village). When our police team arrived, they were taken hostage and their weapons were taken away,” Shalabh Mathur, Moradabad Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), told ANI.

He also said that the mafia escaped from Bharatpur village and was taken hostage when the police team arrived.

Five police officers were injured and are undergoing treatment at a hospital, but two are still missing and a search is on for them.
