BJP nominates in-charges of 15 states: Telangana, Bengal now has 2 in-charges, Biplab, Javadekar

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in late evening developments on Friday announced the in-charge and co-in-charge of 15 states. The party has also announced office-bearers for Telangana and West Bengal, where the party recently appointed national general secretary Sunil Bansal as its in-charge.

National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has been appointed as Telangana in-charge. Chugh is already in charge of this southern state. Interestingly, recently, the party had announced Sunil Bansal as the in-charge of three states including Telangana, West Bengal and Odisha, who was the general secretary of Uttar Pradesh and now the national general secretary.

Asked about Chugh’s reappointment as Telangana in-charge, a senior party leader said after Bansal was announced as in-charge, many thought that Chugh would be given charge of some other state without being given charge. It would not be nice to remove them. He has worked hard in the state.

With many wondering whether Chugh will lead Telangana or not, the party has cleared its stand in the new list. Chugh has Arvind Menon co-in charge of the state.

A senior party leader clarified that Bansal will continue to be in-charge of the three states with a view to “strengthen the organisation”, which is his strength. “He will be looking at these three states organizationally,” the source said.

Similarly, West Bengal, a state under Bansal, got its new in-charge in Bihar’s MLC Mangal Pandey, while IT in-charge Amit Malviya and Asha Lakhra, Ranchi mayor and party’s national secretary, are co-in-charges of Bengal.

Eye on Bihar, BJP sent Tawda to take charge

Vinod Tawde, who was in charge of Haryana, has been challenged to take Bihar to the party in the elections. With the BJP’s organization expanding after a split with ally JD(U), Tawde has been sent as in-charge of Bihar, while UP MP Harish Dwivedi has been retained as co-in-charge of Bihar.

Former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb has got a place in the organization as in-charge of Haryana. “Deb has been active in Tripura and had to adjust and moving him to Haryana ensured that he would not have time to engage in Tripura politics,” said a party leader.

In-charge of Tripura Vinod Sonkar has been made in-charge of Daman, Diu and Dadar Nagar Haveli.

Former I&B minister Prakash Javadekar has also been given charge in the organisation. He has been made in-charge of Kerala, a state that has escaped the BJP. He will be assisted by his co-in-charge Radha Mohan Agarwal. Agarwal will also be in charge of Lakshadweep.

Recently, Om Mathur, who was included in the party’s Central Election Committee, has been made in-charge of Chhattisgarh, while Bihar MLA Nitin Nabin has been made co-in-charge of the party. Rajya Sabha MP Laxmikant Vajpayee has been made in-charge of Jharkhand.

Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani will look after Punjab and Chandigarh. Gautam Budh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma has been given the charge of Tripura. The party has retained its MP and Rajasthan in-charge P Muralidhar Rao and Arun Singh, respectively. Rao will be assisted by Pankaja Munde and Ram Shankar Katheria, while Singh will have co-in-charge Vijaya Rahatkar.

The party has appointed national spokesperson Sambit Patra as the coordinator of the northeastern states and Rituraj Sinha as the joint coordinator.
