The BJP on Wednesday dismissed the opposition’s demand for the resignation of Union minister Ajay Mishra ‘Theni’ as baseless and refused to discuss the Lakhimpur Kheri issue as the matter was sub-judice.

After a Special Investigation Team probing the Lakhimpur Kheri violence termed the October 3 incident as a “pre-planned conspiracy”, the opposition stepped up its demand for Mishra’s resignation and forced the Lok Sabha to adjourn. The son of the arrested Mishra is one of the accused in the case.

Union minister and senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal told reporters, “The investigation is on as per the directions of the Supreme Court. Such comments (of the opposition) are baseless.”

When asked about the demand for discussion, he said, “Parliamentary rules stipulate that a sub-judice matter is not discussed (in Parliament).” The Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha also hit out at the opposition members for continuously disrupting the proceedings of the House and demanded withdrawal of suspension of 12 members who had allegedly attacked marshals in the previous session and inside the chamber. “disturbed” behavior. , Goel said this shows that the opposition parties have no real issue to criticize the government and are not willing to raise issues in public interest.

He said the Lok Sabha was scheduled to discuss the COVID-19 situation after the outbreak on the issue of price hike and the Omicron version in the Rajya Sabha, but got adjourned in both the houses due to opposition protests.

Goel said that 12 opposition members were suspended to restore the confidence of the parliamentary security staff and added that the suspended MPs also lowered the dignity of the Speaker. He said he should apologize for his conduct. Eight people, including two BJP workers, were killed in the violence on October 3.
