Several BJP workers were detained by the police on Wednesday for planning to throw empty utensils at Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s convoy before addressing a rally here, a senior official said.

BJP’s Aurangabad city unit president Sanjay Kenekar, Raju Shinde and other women workers of the party had earlier said that they would submit a memorandum to Thackeray regarding the water problem in the city. But later they came to a hotel where the Chief Minister was to stay.

“Later, the police came to know that these BJP workers were planning to throw empty utensils at Thackeray’s convoy. So the police took timely action and took them into custody before they were released. He was released after the CM’s rally was over,” the official said.
