BJP’s allegation of ‘sovereignty’ associated with it is a lie, a blow to Karnataka’s self-respect: Congress

New Delhi:

The Congress has responded to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) attacks on the use of the word ‘sovereignty’ in the context of Sonia Gandhi’s rally in the Karnataka Assembly elections. The Congress on Monday said this reflects the desperation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP party, who are trying to somehow sway the electoral discourse in their favour.

Congress party general secretary and Karnataka charterer Randeep Surjewala said the BJP’s allegation is ‘fake and false’ and has hurt Karnataka’s self-respect. “The desperation of Prime Minister Modi and the BJP is evident as they try to grab at straws to swing the Karnataka discourse in their favour,” he said in a statement. We are moving forward on behalf of the Prime Minister, he is rejecting forgery and lies. The Prime Minister could not answer the question as to why the BJP is hurting the self-respect of Karnataka.

Surjewala said that the Prime Minister should answer why the BJP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra has implemented its scheme in 865 villages of Karnataka? He asked, “Is this not a violation of federalism? Why are the youth of Karnataka not being allowed to take the Reserve Police Force (CRPF) exam in Kannada language? Why did the Modi government not allow Narayan Upaya in the Republic Day parade?

The Congress leader said the Prime Minister should answer about Karnataka’s ’40 per cent commission government’. He said, “BJP’s cooperation cannot be made in this election on the pretext.”

The BJP on Monday moved the Election Commission, taking action against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and seeking derecognition of her party for using the word “sovereignty” for Karnataka during the election campaign. A BJP delegation led by Union minister Bhupendra Yadav has given a mandate to the Election Commission on the issue.

The party said, “Karnataka is a very important member state in the Union of India and any call to protect the sovereignty of a member state of the Union of India tantamounts to invocation and is fraught with dangerous and deadly danger.” In cross-examination, BJP leader Tarun Chugh cited the Representation of the People Act and said that the recognition of the Congress party should be cancelled.
