BJP’s Rahul Narvekar elected Maharashtra Assembly Speaker

First time MLA Rahul Narvekar is the new Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Colaba in South Mumbai got 164 votes against Shiv Sena candidate Ranjan Salvi.

A year after the post fell vacant due to the resignation of Nana Patole, Narvekar was elected as the president, who stepped down to become the Maharashtra Congress president. Narvekar has been elected speaker a day before the Eknath Shinde government faces a floor test in the 288-member assembly.
