A spokesman for the capital’s commander said at least two people were injured in an explosion at a mosque in Kabul. The emergency hospital said in a tweet that it had found five bodies and more than a dozen injured patients from the blast.
A Taliban official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said explosives were placed inside the pulpit of the mosque and that at least 11 people were killed.
At least nine people were killed and 15 injured in three explosions in northern Balkh province, Mohammad Asif Wajeri, spokesman for the commander of Balkh province, told Reuters, linking the attacks to targeted members of the Shia community, a religious minority in Afghanistan. Huh.
It was not immediately clear who was behind the attacks.
Increasing violence in recent months has caused security challenges for the Taliban, who took over the country in August as foreign forces withdrew. Islamic State has claimed several attacks, which often target Shia minorities.
