Blast outside Liverpool hospital was suicide bombing, police say – Times of India

London: Explosion in taxi outside liverpool The commemoration Sunday was a terrorist attack on a women’s hospital in which a male suicide bomber self-detonated, UK police confirmed on Monday.
The threat level in Britain turned serious on Monday, meaning a terrorist attack is highly likely.
Video footage shows the cab explode after being pulled over at the hospital reception and in front of the driver, named David Perry (45), running out of the car while black clumps of smoke erupt, seconds before going up in flames.
Emergency services reached the spot and doused the fire. UK media reported that the deceased passenger was a man of Middle Eastern heritage.
Perry was initially hospitalized for injuries and burns, but has since been released. A local fundraiser has so far raised £20,000 (Rs 20 million) for him and the mayor of Liverpool Joan Anderson Praised her for “an absolutely terrible disaster could have happened at the hospital”, which specializes in women’s and infant health.
chief Constable Russ JacksonNorth West, counter-terrorism, said the suicide bomber had “asked to be taken to Liverpool Women’s Hospital” after seizing a taxi 10 minutes away.
But UK media speculated that their intended target could be a remembrance Sunday service at Liverpool Cathedral, a 20-minute walk from the hospital. At least 2,000 military personals, veterans and relatives of the fallen, along with civilian dignitaries, gathered at the cathedral for its annual Remembrance Day service on Sunday. The taxi exploded at 10.59 a.m., just a minute before the annual two-minute silence to honor the fallen.
“It is being treated as the ignition of an explosive device,” Jackson said. Inquiries indicate that the device was brought into the cab by the passenger. Our inquiries indicate that an improvised explosive device has been manufactured and so far our impression is that it was created by the passenger in the taxi. We believe we know the identity of the passenger,” he said.
During interrogation officers were taken to two addresses in Liverpool where four arrests were made under the Terrorism Act. Jackson said all four men are in their 20s and are being questioned by counter-terrorism officers, while searches are underway for their addresses and the site where the cabs originated, where “important items have been found”.
“It is not clear what is the motivation for this incident. The reason why he took it to Women’s Hospital is unknown, and what caused its sudden explosion. We know for certain that there were remembrance events at a distance Jackson said, “From the hospital and that the fire started shortly before 11 a.m. This is a line of inquiry that we are following.”
This attack has come after MP Sir David Emsie He was stabbed to death in his constituency surgery on October 15.
