blood donation camp in mysore

Recently, on the occasion of World Health Day, a massive blood donation drive was organized by Manipal Hospital in association with Jeevadhara Blood Bank at five different places in the city.

More than 250 people donated blood at Forum Center City Mall, MIT College, Manipal City Clinic above Excel Diagnostic Centre, Saraswatipuram and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board campus besides Manipal Hospital premises.

The objective of the campaign was to encourage people to fulfill their requirement of blood.

Hospitals require hundreds of units of packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma and platelets every month. “Since blood can only be donated and cannot be manufactured, bridging the gap between donor and recipient was of utmost importance,” it said in a statement.

Gautam Das, director of Manipal Hospital in Mysuru, said the donated blood is regenerated by the body in 4 to 8 weeks’ time.

Girish, managing director of Jivadhara Blood Bank, sought to clarify the doubts on blood donation in the wake of the Kovid-19 epidemic. However, most people are eligible to donate blood after 14 days of showing no symptoms, he said.

Dhanasekaran Ramachandran, Center Head, Forum City Center Mall, said that donating blood is a noble act and appealed to the people to donate blood.
