Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space tourism service has been postponed until March 29, the company said Thursday, initially scheduled for next week, while Saturday Night Live comic Pete Davidson will not be a passenger.
The company had first posted in a short notice Twitterdid not provide any immediate explanation for the change or Davidson’s withdrawal from the manifest blue origin Fourth commercial flight since last summer.
Davidson, 28, reality TV star and socialite’s boyfriend Kim Kardashianwas officially named as Blue Origin’s honorary guest on Monday, joining five paying customers on a flight initially scheduled for March 23.
With Davidson no longer on board the new flight, Blue Origin said it would announce a sixth crew member in the coming days.
The five previously disclosed are angel investor Marty Allen, real estate veteran Mark Hagley and his wife Sharon Hagley, University of North Carolina professor Jim Kitchen, and George Neal, founder and president of Commercial Space Technologies.
Like the first three groups of Blue Origin passengers, they will ride to shore aboard a six-story, fully autonomous spacecraft called the New Shepard, which will take off from Blue Origin’s launch site near the rural West Texas town of Van Horn. ,
The suborbital joyride, lasting about 10 minutes from liftoff to touchdown, will climb to about 350,000 feet (106 km), treating passengers a few moments of weightlessness, before descending back to Earth for a parachute landing.
