Blue Origin rockets fail during liftoff, no crew on board

Cape Canaveral, Sep 12 (AP) Jeff Bezos’s rocket company suffered a first launch failure on Monday. There were no riders, only science experiments. The Blue Origin rocket took off from West Texas and was barely a minute into flight when bright yellow flames erupted around the single engine below.

The capsule’s emergency launch abort system immediately kicked off by lifting the craft aloft. Several minutes later, the capsule parachuted onto the remote desert floor.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the rocket crashed back to Earth, with no injuries or damage. Although this New Shepard rocket was dedicated to flight experiments, it was the kind used to launch people on a 10-minute ride to the edge of space. The FAA, in charge of public safety during commercial space launches and landings, said the rocket is pending the results of an investigation.

Blue Origin’s launch commentary fell silent when the capsule lifted off from the rocket on Monday morning, finally declaring: It appears we have experienced an anomaly with today’s flight.

It didn’t go as planned.” Booster failure on today’s crewless flight. Escape system performed as designed, Washington-based company Kent tweeted about an hour later. No further details were provided by the company.

The accident occurred when the rocket was traveling at a speed of about 1,126 kmph at an altitude of about 8,500 meters. No video was shown of the capsule only after the rocket’s failure. This happened around the point where the rocket is at maximum pressure, called Max-Q. The rocket usually lands directly on the desert floor and is then recycled for future flights.

The webcast showed the capsule reaching a maximum altitude of over 11,300 metres. Thirty-six experiments were on board, half sponsored by NASA. was put together by most of the students. It was the 23rd flight for the New Shepard program, named after the first American in space, Mercury astronaut Alan Shepard, and the ninth flight for this particular rocket-capsule pair.

Blue Origin’s most recent flight with paying customers was just last month; Ticket price has not been released. Bezos was on the first crew of New Shepard last year. In total, Blue Origin has carried 31 people, including actor William Shatner. The rocket was supposed to launch about two weeks ago, but was put on hold until Monday due to bad weather. (AP).
