BMTC, BMRCL to normalize services on weekends

From the end of this week, buses and public transport like Namma Metro will resume normal services.

In a press release, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said that from January 22, metro services will be available from 5 am to 11 pm except Sundays. On Sunday, services will be available from 7 am to 11 pm, BMRCL had cut services on weekends citing poor occupancy due to curfew.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will also run the service on weekends as per schedule. The BMTC had drastically reduced services after the government imposed curfew over the weekend. Buses operated only for people with emergency services to and from the airport.

Meanwhile, a committee appointed by the state government to study the working of the four road transport corporations has requested the general public to give their opinion on how the services can be improved.

The committee is headed by former IAS officer MR Srinivasa Murthy, who has also served as the managing director of KSRTC. The committee was constituted by the state government to make the operation of the four RTCs more efficient and sustainable.
