Globally, BMW Motorrad offers four models in the BMW K 1600 line-up. For India, only two of these models are expected to be offered, the K 1600 GT and the K 1600 GTL.

BMW Motorrad India has unveiled its luxury touring motorcycle range with the BMW K 1600 GT and BMW K 1600 GTL. Late last year, BMW Motorrad updated the 2022 1600 range with an updated engine and electronics, new features and color options, and now it looks like the luxury touring model will be offered in India as well. Globally, BMW Motorrad offers four models in the BMW K 1600 line-up. For India, only two of these models are expected to be offered, the K 1600 GT and the K 1600 GTL.

Both the bikes are powered by a 1,649 cc inline six-cylinder engine that generates 158 bhp at 6,750 rpm and 179 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm.

The updated engine now gets usable power up to 1,000 rpm, and two knock sensors on the rear of the cylinder bank keep the motor running smoothly, even with low octane fuel. Two new lambda sensors, along with six exhaust manifold sensors monitor the performance of the combustion chambers.

BMW’s 1600 GTL features a standard top box in addition to hard-case panniers, and is designed for superior pillar comfort.

Electronic traction control is now standard and a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) ensures that the system is operating correctly. In Dynamic Ride mode, the system allows a slight rear wheel spin as compared to Rain and Road modes. The bikes come with BMW’s latest version of semi-active suspension, which comes with two settings, dynamic and road. Corning awareness adaptive LED headlights are standard, and the bike gets a 10.25-inch TFT instrument console, split screen with navigation and connectivity includes both helmet and smartphone options.

The BMW K 1600 GTL offers a standard top box and is designed for more pillar comfort. The K 1600 GTL also comes with an optional Comfort Package, which includes a quickshifter, auxiliary LED headlight, engine safety bar, keyless ride, central locking system and anti-theft alarm. Internationally, BMW offers a standard variant of the GTL with two optional styling options. Prices are expected to be above ₹30 lakh for the model.
