Germany’s BMW will be ready for any restrictions on internal combustion engine (ICE) cars by offering electric vehicles from 2030, chief executive Oliver Gipps said on Tuesday.

The European Union has proposed an effective ban on fossil fuel cars from 2035 as part of a comprehensive package of measures to combat global warming.

“We will be ready for an ICE-ban. If any region, city, country comes up with an idea to ban ICE, we have an offer,” Gippes told a conference in the city of Neuertingen, near Stuttgart.

Unlike rivals including Volkswagen and General Motors, BMW has not set a production end date for ICE cars.

“The BMW Group is not concerned about this. Whether it is a good idea is another question … but we will have an offer.”
