A six-year-old boy died after slitting the neck of a piece of thread used to fly kites in northern Karnataka’s Belagavi district. Vardhan Eranna Balle of Anantapur village near Yamakanamradi died on Sunday 23 October in a private hospital.

He had gone shopping with his father on Sunday in the old town market of Belagavi. He was sitting in front of his father’s bike.

While returning home, a sharp thread cut his neck near the old Gandhi Nagar bridge. The thread was attached to an abandoned kite, and lay across the road.

Father did not see the thread because it is too thin.

The cut was deep. The father took the boy to the hospital, but the doctors could not save the victim. A police officer said that he had lost a lot of blood.

A case has been registered.
