BPSCL: Bokaro residents cry over fly ash. Ranchi News – Times of India

Bokaro : Bokaro Power Supply Company Private Limited (BPSCL) Fly ash and bottom ash remain a cause of concern for residents living in around six villages Bokaro Steel plant (BSL).
“Sometimes heatwaves are accompanied by fly ash storms. The residents of Modidih, Maheshpur, Kanchanpur and Chaitata are the worst affected. Even when the windows are closed, fly ash dust enters the house,” said Ganesh Saw, a Mahuari Resident.
BPCL, a joint venture of SAIL and DVC, provides electricity and steam to Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL).
The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests had notified that fly ash generated from thermal power plants should be used as fly ash bricks in construction activities. Former Executive Director (Projects), Ravi Verma The circular was issued on 11 June 2014.
Head of Communications, BSL, Manikant Dhano “Around 2,000 fly ash bricks are made daily by BPSCL, which are used for civil works in the plant. NHAI uses it. One rake is being sent every month since December. Bio-fixation of fly ash mound has been started by BPSCL.
Chief Executive Officer, BPSCL, KK Thakur said, “Efforts are on to maximize utilization by manufacturing fly ash bricks. We had exported two railway racks of fly ash to Bangladesh. Green grass is being laid on the fly ash mounds to reduce pollution.
State Pollution Control Board chairman AK Rastogi said, “Will look into it.”
