Braille version of Assamese dictionary launched – Times of India

braille version ofhemakoshoAssam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has released the first etymological dictionary of the Assamese language. A Raj Bhavan release said that this edition, published by the Saadan-Pradayani group, will be gifted free of cost to the visually impaired people of the state.

The next generation of his family, who currently own the media conglomerate ‘Sadin-Daily’, have since come out with later editions of the dictionary.
Speaking at the program on Friday, the Governor said, “This effort will increase the benchmark of Hemkosh as visually impaired people can also take advantage of it from today. I congratulate the entire team for this noble cause.”
He hoped that the vocabulary would help in improving the quality of education of visually impaired students.
Appreciating the efforts of Saadan-Pradayin Group owner Jayant Barua, Mukhi said, “All these years Hemkosh has been instrumental in the upliftment and progress of Assamese language, and now braille dictionary Will be a great help to the visually impaired.”
He also appreciated the initiative to make the Braille version available free of cost to the visually impaired people of the state, the release said.
