India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in the year 2008. Since then, the team has only entered the final of the competition once, in 2014, where it lost to Sri Lanka. Barring two editions, India have struggled to live up to expectations at the global event. In the latest edition to be held in 2022, India were knocked out in the semi-finals after losing by 10 wickets to England. Amid the struggles of the Indian men’s cricket team, former spinner Harbhajan Singh has suggested that the team may appoint a designated T20 coach, adding that another coach can take charge of the team in other formats.

After their disappointment in the 2022 T20 World Cup, reports have emerged that Team India is looking at a pool of young players for the 2024 World event which is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States. The report also states that the team management is looking at Hardik Pandya as the long-term captain for India in the shortest format.
