BSP chief Mayawati targets UP BJP government over survey of private madrasas

Bahujan Samaj Party chief and former state chief minister Mayawati has attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttar Pradesh for ordering a survey of private madrassas aided by the madrassa board. The BSP chief said that it would have been better if the BJP government had focused on improving the condition of government schools.

BSP chief Mayawati said in two tweets on Friday morning, ‘Complaints of exploitation, neglect and riot-victims of Muslim society have been common in the Congress era, yet after coming to power by doing narrow politics in the name of ‘appeasement’. The game of harassed and terrorized by BJP continues uninterrupted, which is very sad and condemnable.

In this sequence, now the BJP government is keeping a close eye on the madrassas of UP. It is also unfair to try to interfere in private madrassas running on community donations in the name of madrassa survey, while the government should focus on improving the condition of government-aided madrassas and government schools.

Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government recently ordered a survey of unrecognized (private) madrassas in the state. Several opposition parties condemned the move and some even termed it as a ‘mini NRC’ by the government. The survey was announced by Minister of State for Minority Affairs Danish Azad Ansari on Wednesday, triggering a political storm in the state.

A few days ago, All India The Muslim Personal Law Board had also attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central and state governments, alleging partisan and unconstitutional action against madrassas, especially in states ruled by the BJP government. AIMPLB has also asked why the same rules are not applicable for monasteries, gurukulas, dharamshalas and other religious institutions. AIMPLB had appealed to the government to stop the partisan action against madrassas and take action within the ambit of the Constitution.

A statement issued by AIMPLB general secretary Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rehmani said, “A one-party government influenced by the RSS, at the Center and in some states, openly takes a negative attitude towards minorities, especially the Muslim community. . However, when a party influenced by a certain idea comes to power, it is expected that its approach will be impartial and within the ambit of our Constitution. Even the Prime Minister himself has spoken of law and order in Parliament and elsewhere, but in various state governments where the BJP is in power, their attitude is the opposite.

“The way BJP governments in Assam and UP are chasing madrassas in very small violations by shutting down madrasas, bulldozing them and even calling people working in madrasas and mosques as terrorists without any reason. troubling them. Also, prominent people coming from outside the country have to face sanctions and restrictions, which is a gross violation of the Indian Constitution. If bulldozing buildings is the only option for any violation, why don’t they take the same approach to gurukuls, monasteries and dharamshalas as they do to madrassas and mosques? It seems that the government is acting on its own accord and not following what is written in the constitution.

The letter further said, “The Muslim Personal Law Board condemns such a partisan approach and requests the governments to abide by what is written in the Constitution and to practice it with patience and within the limits of the Indian Constitution.” “
