Budget 2023 | Government to set up 100 5G labs to develop new apps

The government proposes to set up 100 laboratories for the development of applications using 5G services in various engineering institutes across the country. Three Centers of Excellence for AI will also be set up. These measures will lead to realization of a new range of opportunities, business models and employment potential Union Budget presented by the Finance Minister On 1 February.

According to him, these labs would include applications such as smart classrooms, precision farming, intelligent transportation systems and healthcare, among other things.

Responding to the proposal, Bipin Sapra, Partner, Tax & Regulatory Services, EY India, said that the government has taken a giant leap in more rapid adoption of 5G by setting up these labs. Accenture Senior Managing Director, Piyush N. Singh said setting up new centers of excellence for AI and 5G labs to develop apps will help democratize AI and push for wider adoption of 5G services. “It will be important for the private sector ecosystem to work closely with the government to realize India’s digital future,” Mr Singh said.
