According to Mughalpura police, an 11-year-old girl from Hyderabad was allegedly raped by a cab driver and her friend after he offered her a free ride on the pretext of dropping her home.
The incident happened on the night of May 31, 2022, Mogalpura police said on June 5. The accused dropped the girl in the early hours of the next day at a nearby place from where she was picked up. The patrol unit of the police traced him around 5 am and brought him to a woman officer in the police station.
The Mughalpura police was already looking for the girl as her relatives had lodged a missing complaint after midnight last night.
According to the victim’s statement, the minor was living with her grandmother in Sultanshahi and left for her home around 6 pm. Two hours later, near the hill Sharif Arch, the cab driver came to her, knowing that she was alone and had no money. The driver Sheikh Kalim convinced her to come inside and promised to drop her off at her mother’s house.
At 10.00 pm the driver picked up his friend Mohammad Lukman, a milk trader and left for his home in Kondurag village in Ranga Reddy district. An officer alleged that it was here that both the accused sexually assaulted the girl.
Medical examination of the victim was done and the police have booked the accused persons for rape under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and related sections.
Based on the information provided by the victim and the available CCTV footage, two teams were formed to nab the accused, who were arrested on June 3. The accused persons have been sent to judicial custody.
