Cairn Oil & Gas targets net-zero carbon emissions by 2050

New Delhi: Cairn Oil and Gas, a unit of Vedanta Ltd, on Monday said it is set to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and said it aims to double production to Rs 4 billion in the next three-four years. The dollar investment is in line with the newly announced Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) roadmap.

Anil Agarwal, Founder and Chairman, Vedanta, said, “Vedanta Group has been at the forefront of sustainable practices that align with the Prime Minister’s goals of achieving net-zero coupled with positive economic growth. Our oil and gas business is today poised to meet India’s energy needs and growth aspirations. Inspired by the philosophy of ‘Zero Harm, Zero Waste, Zero Discharge’, we have formulated strong ESG targets for our operations that will help India’s energy sector become more efficient and enable the country’s journey to become self-reliant “

The objectives of the ESG will broadly focus on uplifting the lives of 1 million people in operational areas through sustainable livelihood opportunities, education as well as educating ~9 million students through digital education programs by 2030 will focus on the upliftment of 20 million women and children through nutrition, health care and wellness. ,
