Federation for the Recovery of Tiruchi Palapannai-Thuvakudi Service Road, a joint action committee of residents’ welfare associations, launched several agitations to press its demand for expediting land acquisition for the construction of service lanes along the Tiruchi-Thanjavur extension. announced. The federation’s chief organizer S Sakthivel said in a statement that the land acquisition process has been shelved for the last 22 months.

The federation, in a meeting held on Sunday, resolved to form a human chain at Thiruverumbur and follow it up with a road blockade. The members of the federation also resolved to observe a fast and invite all political parties to participate in the protest. Apart from this, a two-wheeler rally has been planned.

Whenever Chief Minister MK Stalin visits Tiruchy, members of the Resident Association gather in large numbers and present petitions to him demanding the construction of service lanes.

Similarly, residents will visit the offices of Tiruverumbur MLA and School Education Minister Ambil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Tiruchy Member of Parliament, Su. Thirunavukkarasar, to present the petition on the same.

The Federation was demanding that the land acquisition process be expedited keeping in mind the loss of life and injuries to road users in the absence of service lanes. In Sunday’s meeting, it decided to network families of victims, who were killed or injured in road accidents on the Thanjavur Highway since 2010, and file a petition before the High Court seeking compensation for them. It also resolved to move court against toll collection at Thuvakudi in the absence of service lanes.

The meeting condemned the alleged attempts by “selfish” traders to stall the construction of the service lane and called for residents to boycott their shops.
