Tata Sons on Thursday announced the appointment of Campbell Wilson as the CEO and MD of Air India. Air India Board approved the appointment subject to requisite regulatory approvals.

The development comes after the appointment of Turkish airline CEO Ilkar I as the CEO of Air India, causing a stir over their political ties. The position has been lying vacant since the government handed over control of the airline to Tata in January.

Mr. Wilson, 50, is the CEO of Scoot, a wholly owned low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA). He has over 26 years of experience in the aviation industry in full-service and budget carriers.

Mr. Wilson started as a management trainee with SIA in New Zealand in 1996. He worked for SIA in Canada, Hong Kong and Japan before returning to Singapore as the founding CEO of Scoot in 2011, which he headed until 2016.

Mr. Wilson then served as SIA’s Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, where he covered pricing, distribution, eCommerce, merchandising, brand and marketing, global sales and overseas of the airline, before returning for a second term as CEO. Offices inspected. Scooty in April 2020.
