The researchers noted that there were differences in the type of cinnamon used in each study.

Cinnamon is considered to be one of the most powerful powdered spices that can treat a number of health conditions.

Cinnamon is extracted from the bark of various species of cinnamon trees and has been used as a spice for thousands of years. People have valued the medicinal benefits of cinnamon and consider it to be one of the most powerful powdered spices that can treat many health conditions. However, over the years many researchers have questioned whether cinnamon can actually treat diabetes.

According to the Indian Express, while cinnamon can only be used as a dietary supplement, whether it significantly lowers blood sugar in diabetics is still unknown. While some studies have demonstrated its benefits, others have not. Because different amounts and types of cinnamon were used in each study, it is difficult to compare results across multiple reports.

In a 2012 study, 69 Chinese people with type 2 diabetes were studied. One group consumed 120 milligrams of cinnamon daily. The other group took 360 mg. While the third group consumed placebo. After three months, the placebo group showed no change, while the two groups consuming cinnamon showed a decline in A1C levels. A 2013 meta-analysis of 10 trials found that consumption of cinnamon significantly reduced blood sugar, total cholesterol, LDL, and triglyceride levels. In addition, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels also increased.

The researchers noted that there were differences in the type of cinnamon used in each study. A 2019 study found that consuming 3 to 6 grams of cinnamon daily lowered blood sugar levels.

More research is needed to establish how well the vitamin and cinnamon can control diabetes. But its properties still help maintain general health.

Other Benefits of Cinnamon

Cinnamon extracts have been used in traditional Ayurveda to treat inflammatory diseases, arthritis, diarrhea and irregular menstruation. Because of its ability to lower blood sugar and triglycerides, as well as other potential health benefits, the spice has received a lot of media interest. The bioactive constituents of cinnamon may help regulate blood sugar.

How can cinnamon be consumed?

Cinnamon can be consumed in a number of ways, including as one of the main spices in Indian gravies and as a flavoring for biryani and in the making of kaara, as is done in Jammu and Kashmir. You can add it in powdered form to your tea, dessert or oatmeal for flavor.

Apart from this, it can also be used in rolls, baked dishes and smoothies. However, it is important to consume the right amount. 1/2-1 teaspoon (3-5 grams) of cinnamon can be consumed daily.

According to experts, with different studies showing different results, it is important to note that no single nutrient can cure diabetes. Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, monitor blood sugar, take diabetes medicine, or insulin therapy if you need to control diabetes.
