Cannes 2023: A look at Indian films to be screened at the film festival

Cannes [France]May 13 (ANI): The 2023 Cannes Film Festival is just around the corner and Indian cinema is already creating buzz.

Several Indian films will be screened at this year’s festival, including director Anurag Kashyap’s “Kennedy” and actor Rahul Roy’s “Agra”.

let’s talk about them in detail

‘Kennedy’

Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Kennedy’ has been selected as part of the midnight screening section of the festival, which will run from May 16-27.

In April, the official Twitter handle of the Cannes Film Festival announced the selection of Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Kennedy’ in the midnight screening section of the festival.

“Anurag Kashyap #SeanceDeMinuit / #MidnightScreenings #Cannes2023 by Kennedy,” read the post. ‘Kennedy’ stars Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt and Abhilash Thapliyal.

Coming from the house of Zee Studios and Good Bad Films, ‘Kennedy’ is essentially a cop noir film by Anurag Kashyap. The film revolves around an insomniac ex-cop, long thought dead, but still working for a corrupt system, and searching for redemption. The film stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in lead roles and has been selected for midnight screening at Cannes Film Festival 2023.

Sharing details about it, Kashyap said, “This is a film and genre that I have always wanted to explore. It is more polemical than noir, inspired by the crime writings of Patrick Manchet and his comic book collaborations with Jacques Tardy, and the cinema of Melville. It is also a deeply personal crime/police drama and I am very grateful to Zee Studios, Shariq and team, Neeraj, Bhumika, my producers Ranjan, Kabir and Kavan, my entire team, my partners in crime Silver, Qazvin, Prashant who have supported me helped shape it. Rahul Bhat who gave 8 months of his life, Sunny Leone who challenged it, Mohit Takalkar took it… I am grateful at this moment.

‘Agra’

Rahul Roy starrer ‘Agra’ will have its world premiere in the Directors Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. The Hindi film written and directed by Kanu Behl is produced by Saregama India Limited, UFO Production and O28 Films.

The ensemble cast of ‘Agra’ is led by Aashiqui star Rahul Roy, who is making a comeback with this film. It also stars Priyanka Bose (actress of the Oscar-nominated film Lion), debutants Mohit Aggarwal, Ruhani Sharma, and veteran actors Vibha Chibber, Sonal Jha and Aanchal Goswami.

The film is an exploration of the sexual dynamics within a family and the deep dystopian fractures created in modern India that are rapidly shrinking into pigeon-holed spaces.

‘Ishanau’

Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma’s 1990 award-winning film ‘Ishanau’ will be screened at Cannes this year.

It has been officially selected for the red-carpet world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Classics section of the Cannes Film Festival 2023 on May 19, 2023. This year, a section that celebrates restored versions of all-time classics. (ANI)
