Case against 7 BJP workers for protesting against showing BBC series on PM

Seven BJP workers were booked for protesting against the showing of a BBC documentary on PM Narendra Modi by the Communist Party at a private hall in Madurai’s Meenakshi Nagar area last evening, police said.

On getting the information, some members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reached the spot. BJP members who reached the spot tried to stop the screening of the documentary and also started protesting.

The police reached the spot and detained the BJP workers.

On Sunday night, more BJP members protested at the gate of Avaniyapuram police station to condemn the police action against the BJP.

Avaniyapuram Assistant Commissioner of Police Selva Kumar confirmed to ANI, “BBC documentary was screened at the Jamaat-owned indoor palace on Sunday. BJP opposed it. We have registered a case against seven BJP workers and are investigating the case.” Checking.”

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a PIL seeking a blanket ban on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and BBC India from operating from Indian territory in view of the telecast of a documentary titled ‘India: The Modi Question’ related to the 2002 Gujarat riots. done. ,

A division bench of Justices Sanjeev Khanna and MM Sundresh said the petition was misconceived and the court cannot impose censorship.

Hindu Sena president Vishnu Gupta demanded a ban on the BBC’s operations in India, alleging that it was taking an “anti-India” position.

The PIL has also sought a direction to the NIA to initiate an investigation against its staff journalists in India for anti-India and anti-government reporting/documentary films/short films and to submit an investigation report before the apex court.

The PIL states that the recent BBC documentary on the Prime Minister is the result of a deep-rooted conspiracy against India and the global rise of its Prime Minister. The UK’s BBC two-part series on PM Modi’s tenure as chief minister of Gujarat during the 2002 Gujarat riots sparked outrage and was pulled from select platforms.

According to sources, on January 21, the Center issued directions to block several YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the controversial BBC documentary on Narendra Modi.

Earlier, the apex court had issued notice to the Center and sought response on petitions seeking direction to restrain the Central government from censoring BBC documentary related to 2002 Gujarat riots.
