Case under SC / ST Act for assault on youth

The Chirayanquez police on Wednesday registered a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against a man from a Forward Christian community who allegedly accompanied his sister’s husband belonging to the Scheduled Caste community. Had beaten up. The accused has been identified as Dr Danish George. Police is searching for the hidden accused.

According to the police, Midhun (26), who worked at the Akshaya Kendra in Kadakvoor, had eloped with Deepti George (24) on October 29. His family had lodged a missing person complaint on the same day. The couple appeared at the Chirayinquez police station that day. She said that she would rather stay with Midhun than go back to the family she had married.

The next day, Deepti’s family invites her to the local church for reconciliation talks. Later, they went to Dipti’s house, where a scuffle broke out for not letting Midhun inside, police said.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Deepti accused her brother of demanding Midhun to convert to Christianity or end the relationship. When Midhun refused to accede to this demand, he was attacked, she said.

In a CCTV footage of the attack, Danish can be seen attacking Midhun with a stick. Midhun is currently undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital here.

Investigating officer Attingal DSP Sunish Babu told Hindu That the police team had started a search for Danish in Ernakulam, where he runs a clinic. However, by then he had gone into hiding. Police has started raids.

Mr Babu said whether there was an allegation of forced conversion could be confirmed only after the statements of Midhun and Deepti were recorded.
