A senior official of the probe agency alleged that its officers were detained by the Delhi Police on August 3 while they were raiding the property of one of the accused, a “close associate” of three arrested MLAs, in the national capital.

“On Wednesday morning, a team of West Bengal CID officers was stopped by the Delhi Police from conducting a search operation on the property of an accused person close to an MLA despite having a court warrant,” the official said. PTI,

He said four CID officers – an inspector, an ASI and two SIs – were detained and stopped from conducting searches at the residence of the accused under South Campus police station area in New Delhi despite having a court warrant.

The Delhi Police, which functions under the central government, later said it had provided all assistance to the CID team before certain “legal discrepancies” were found in the execution of the search warrants.

“… Legal opinion was sought which showed that the warrant is not executable. Hence, it was conveyed to WB Police,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Manoj C. said in a statement. The West Bengal government has sent a team of three senior officials to the national capital to solve the matter, an official of the state home department said.

On the ‘detention’ of police personnel in Assam, the CID official said talks are on with officials in the BJP-ruled northeastern state.

Meanwhile, a senior officer of Guwahati Police told PTI That he had given full cooperation to his counterparts in the neighboring state in the investigation.

“The rumor that we have detained them is completely false. In fact, they are driven around the city in the vehicle provided by us,” he said. The Congress, which is a part of the JMM-led government in Jharkhand, has alleged that the BJP is trying to topple the Hemant Soren government by offering Rs 10 crore more ministerial posts to the MLAs.

The party has also named Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the alleged conspiracy. The BJP, however, rubbished the allegations, claiming that the Congress was trying to hide its corruption.
