Cattle smuggling probe: ED arrests Chartered Accountant of Anubrata Mandal

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested the Chartered Accountant (CA) of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader. Anubrata Mondal in connection with the investigation of the alleged cattle smuggling scaman official of the central agency said on March 15.

They said Manish Kothari was arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials late on March 14 at his city office after nearly seven hours of questioning after he allegedly “non-cooperated” with them.

“He is not cooperating with us and is trying to divert the investigation in a way. He has been arrested and will be questioned further,” the officer said.

Officials said the ED wants to question Kothari and the Birbhum Trinamool Congress president’s board as part of its probe.

“Interrogation of both Mondal and his CA together will definitely help us in the investigation. This person played a key role in the scam,” he said.

The TMC leader was arrested by the ED in November last year. He was taken into custody by the CBI in August 2022 in a cattle smuggling case. After taking Mr. Mondal into custody, the ED took him to New Delhi to investigate the scam.

He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
