CBDT: No data breach; Infosys plugs loopholes in e-filing portal

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) chairperson Sangita Singh announced on June 7 that an issue with the search functionality and non-accessibility of the e-filing website had been brought to her attention. His remarks came during an event organized by the Income Tax Department in New Delhi to mark the launch of an e-book titled “Pratidvani”

; as part of the Finance Ministry’s prestigious week.

“The Income Tax Department has seized the matter. Infosys has been directed to look into it and Infosys has confirmed that they are resolving the issue on priority,” assured. CBDT President Sangeeta Singh.

Singh said, “We have been apprised of the matter, there were non-access glitches on the tax portal and we immediately asked Infosys to look into the concerns. Infosys has been informed and Infosys is continuously investigating. Some The glitches were fixed within an hour, Infosys’ initial verification report is that there has been no data breach.”

In his welcome address, the CBDT Chairman explained how the Income Tax Department had served the nation and how the taxpayers contributed to its development. He also said that the department will continue to have constructive dialogue with the taxpayers and communicate effectively with them to build trust.

In response to a question on virtual digital assets, the CBDT chairman said, “We are working on a FAQ for clarity on crypto, and we will release it before July 1st.”

As part of the Finance Ministry’s prestigious week, BJP MP Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad released the e-book “Pratidvani”. Promoting “Resonance”, Karad praised the Income Tax Department for “transforming itself into a service-oriented organization while achieving strong revenue collection despite the challenges of the pandemic”.

Quoting from Chanakya’s “Arthashastra”, he outlined the philosophy of ‘Kosha, Mulo, Dand’ and reiterated that revenue is the backbone of the economy. He also remarked that the department has been able to adopt positive changes to be able to provide quality and time bound services to the taxpayers, including the introduction of Annual Information System (AIS) and instant allotment of PAN. e-PAN) and faceless assessment.

He praised the achievements of the department in establishing an effective, transparent and fair tax administration, which has resulted in revenue augmentation which is sustainable and efficient for the taxpayers.
