CBI charges murder against 6 UP policemen in connection with the death of a Kanpur businessman

The CBI on Friday filed a charge sheet against six Uttar Pradesh policemen in connection with the murder of Kanpur-based businessman Manish Gupta.

Chargesheet was filed against SHO Jagatnarayan, Sub Inspector Akshay Kumar Mishra, Sub Inspector Vijay Yadav, Sub Inspector Rahul Dubey, Head Constable Kamlesh Singh Yadav, Constable Prashant Kumar.

Manish Gupta, who died mysteriously during a police raid at a hotel in Gorakhpur, was allegedly lynched by the accused policemen.

On the night of September 27, Manish Gupta, a businessman from Kanpur, had gone to Gorakhpur with two of his friends and was staying at a local hotel when a police team raided his room.

According to reports, the businessmen wanted to know why they were being questioned and six policemen in the team thrashed him so badly that he died.

A video clip from the hotel’s CCTV footage shows police dragging the lifeless body of Manish Gupta into a lift.

The Gorakhpur police had later claimed that Gupta was injured after falling down while trying to escape.

The state government was heavily criticized for this incident and apart from financial compensation, Manish Gupta’s wife Meenakshi has been given a government job.
