CBI has stayed the notice to Abhishek Banerjee

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sent another letter to Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on April 18, informing him that the notice was served to him earlier. on 17 april has been postponed till further orders of the Supreme Court.

The summons dated April 16 by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch was served on Mr. Banerjee at 1.45 pm on April 17, despite the Supreme Court staying the execution of the High Court order till April 24. The Trinamool leader was on the heels of the Calcutta High Court’s directions, where Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had ordered on April 13 that all “aspects indicated above, including Abhishek Banerjee’s public speech, should also not be left out of scrutiny”. ” CBI and if required, ED”.

Mr Banerjee was questioned in connection with the school job scam after Trinamool Congress youth leader Kuntal Ghosh was arrested on some allegations. The Trinamool leader challenged this order in the apex court. On 17 April, a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud stayed the Calcutta High Court’s 13 April order till 24 April.

The notice to the Trinamool leader had drawn strong reactions from the Trinamool Congress as well as Mr Banerjee, who said the summons, despite a stay by the Supreme Court, amounted to “contempt of court”.
