Rijiju in his address said that “there was a time, I remember very well that those who sit in the government sometimes become problems in investigation”.

He said that today there is a Prime Minister who himself is playing a key role in the campaign against corruption.

“I know the difficulties when those in power indulge in corruption; when it is difficult for them to comply… it becomes difficult for the CBI. Then we have heard some lewd comments from the judiciary in the past. We have A long way to go now,” said the minister.

In 2013, during the hearing of the coalfield allocation case, the Supreme Court had described the CBI as a ‘cage parrot’.

Addressing the 19th DP Kohli Memorial Lecture of the CBI on April 1, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Raman had also called for the creation of an “independent umbrella institution” to bring various investigating agencies under one roof.

The CJI said, “When it comes to the CBI, it had a lot of public trust in its initial phase. In fact, the judiciary used to be flooded with requests to transfer the investigation to the CBI, as it was a symbol of impartiality and independence. “
