CBI will respond to Indrani’s application

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday accepted an application filed by former media executive Indrani Mukerjea contending that her daughter Sheena Bora is alive and directed the CBI to file a reply.

Advocate Sana Rais Khan filed an application on behalf of Ms. Mukherjee, lodged in Byculla Women’s Jail since October 2012, for the alleged murder of her daughter Sheena on April 24, 2012.

The application referred to a hand-written letter by Ms. Mukherjee to the court stating that she was approached by Asha Vishwanath Korke, an inspector of Mumbai Police, inside the jail, at around 7 am on November 25, 2021. , who were arrested in the related case. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh was further sent to jail on 16 November.

‘Important Information’

According to the letter, Ms Korke claimed that she had important information about Sheena which she had hidden since July 2021. Ms. Korke said she had met Sheena on June 24, 2021, when she had gone to Srinagar on leave and when he called her name. Outside, Sheena replied.

Sheena then asked Ms. Korke who she was and how she recognized him. Ms. Korke tells him that she was an inspector and that Sheena should come forward and say that she is alive because her parents are locked in for her murder.

To which Sheena told him, ‘I have started a new life, I do not want to return to my old life anymore.’ The letter said that Ms. Korke told Ms. Mukherjee that a man (foreigner) came on a motorcycle and Sheena left with him.

Two days later, Ms. Mukherjee wrote a letter to CBI Director Subodh Jaiswal about her conversations with Ms. Korke. The court has taken the application on record and directed the agency to file its reply on February 4.

24-year-old Sheena was allegedly strangled to death in a car and then her body was burnt and dumped in a forest in Raigad.

Ms. Mukherjee’s ex-husbands Peter Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna are also accused in the murder.
