Center built 1.75 crore houses under PM Awas Yojana-Gramin

In Parliament, the Center said that it has built 1.75 crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. Union Rural Development Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti told in the Rajya Sabha that out of 2.28 crore houses approved under this scheme, 1.75 crore houses have been completed till March 9, 2022.

PMAY-G Scheme It was started to promote pucca houses with essential utilities for the people living in rural areas. Assistance is released to the beneficiary in at least 3 installments which are linked at different stages of completion like at the time of sanction, foundation, plinth, window, lintel, roof, etc.

Due to the pandemic, the minister said construction activities were affected, which slowed down the pace of construction PMAY-G House.

“Besides, delay in release of central and state share from state treasury to the state nodal account of PMAY-G, cases of reluctance of beneficiaries to complete the construction, migration, cases of disputed succession of deceased beneficiaries, The reasons are also in the allotment of land by states/UTs to landless beneficiaries and sometimes in land, non-availability of construction material, etc. due to general/assembly/panchayat elections,” he added.

He also informed that the Union Cabinet has approved continuation of PMAY-G from March 2021 to March 2024 to meet the remaining houses within the cumulative target of 2.95 crore houses under PMAY-G.
