Center extends DBT benefit to National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) on Saturday announced that the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) will be a part of the Direct Beneficiary Transfer (DBT) scheme, which will provide direct government benefits to all apprentices.

Earlier, companies used to pay the full amount to the trainees and then demanded reimbursement from the government.

With the launch of the DBT scheme, the government will directly transfer 25% of the stipend payable up to Rs. 1500/- per month.

Appreciating this initiative, the Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Education Dharmendra Pradhan said that apprenticeship is getting a big boost under Skill India.

Pradhan said that the first group of apprentices got stipend subsidy in their accounts through DBT under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. “It not only promotes apprenticeship but also takes us closer to realizing the potential of Skill India.”

It is imperative to transform apprenticeship into a participatory movement to enable young India to develop skills, skills and skills, increase per capita economic output and support national missions. This not only exposes the candidates to the real-time industrial environment but also gives them an opportunity to contribute to the economy during their training. It also promotes the Skill India Mission by creating a sustainable skill development strategy in collaboration with the government, businesses and educational systems. MSDE aims to further boost the employability of youth through such a sustainable model of skill development and help in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was launched on 19th August, 2016 to promote apprenticeship training in the country and to provide financial assistance to apprenticeship establishments. The program aims to motivate employers to hire apprentices and help them find the right job role while maximizing their potential through intensive skill development. Till date, more than 12 lakh apprentices are associated with various industries.

India’s dream of becoming the ‘Skill Capital of the World’ is well on course to come true with the introduction of various apprenticeship reforms aimed at building a skilled manpower. It is envisioned that these schemes will be further expanded in the coming years and all contracts will be DBT contracts.
