Coal Crisis: The Power Ministry on Thursday said that there has been no cut in Delhi due to power shortage. In a latest update, the ministry said that Delhi’s maximum demand as on 13 October 21 was 4382 MW (peak) and 95.4 MU (energy).

“As per the information received from Delhi Discoms, there was no outage due to power shortage, as they were supplied the required amount of power,” it said.

In a separate statement, the ministry said Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) has informed that the total capacity of the units under outage due to low stock of coal has come down from 11 GW on 12 October 21 to 5 GW on 14 October .

This is an improvement in the total capacity of the units under outage due to low coal stock of 6 GW as reported on 13 October 2021.

The ministry had also said on Wednesday that there is no outage in Delhi due to power shortage. “As per the information received from Delhi Discoms, there was no outage due to power shortage, as they were supplied the required quantity of power,” a ministry statement said.

It said that Delhi’s maximum demand as on October 11, 2021 was 4683 MW (peak) and 101.9 MU (energy).

A factsheet on electricity supply in Delhi showed that there was no energy shortage in the city from 26 September to 11 October.

As on October 11, Delhi had 101.9 million units (MU) of electricity available against the requirement of 101.1 million units (MU).

From 26 September to 10 October, Delhi had the same energy requirement and availability.

On Monday, the availability of electricity was excessive. It also showed that the maximum power demand and maximum power demand (supply) remained the same during this period.

As per the data, discoms in Delhi had drawn less power than what was provided to them.

This shows that NTPC (Coal) offered 15.67 MU as against 19.03 MU allotted to Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (DDL). But Tata Power DDL had extracted 10.77 MU which is 68.74 per cent of the power provided to it by NTPC (Coal).

Similarly, the power provided by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and NTPC (Gas) to discoms in Delhi was more than the power drawn by these utilities.

The other two discoms supplying electricity to Delhi are BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and BSES Yamuna Power Limited.
