Democracy is under threat in the country, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi N. Shiva said this while addressing a mass protest organized by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) against Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan in front of the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

The Center is doing away with democratic norms and federalism, Mr Shiva said, adding that Mr Khan in Kerala and RN Ravi in Tamil Nadu were trying to override popular will. He claimed that like Kerala, the Tamil Nadu governor was also trying to disrupt the state administration.

The central government should recall the governor, Mr. Shiva said. The DMK and other members of the ruling coalition had written to the President demanding the governor’s removal.

He also congratulated Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for protesting against the governor.
