Central government survey says Delhi class 3 and 5 students performed below national average in 3 subjects

New Delhi: According to the latest National Achievement Survey (NAS) of the central government, Class 3 and Class 5 students in Delhi have performed below the national average in three subjects – Mathematics, Language and Environmental Science (EVS).

However, Delhi’s Class 8 and Class 10 students were found to perform better than the national average, with additional subjects making up for these levels, the NAS found.

The findings of the nationwide survey – conducted last year – come in the backdrop of claims by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that its government in Delhi has made considerable progress in reforming Delhi’s public education system, a model it claims has been Can be replicated across the country. ,

The survey, conducted every three years, aimed at testing children’s basic learning abilities to guide teachers about the need for interventions, also found that children’s learning abilities declined as they entered higher classes. I have progressed.

The education ministry said that about 34 lakh students from 1.18 lakh government schools (central and state), government-aided schools and private-unaided schools from 720 districts (both rural and urban) participated in NAS 2021.

Class 3 and Class 5 students were tested for Language, Mathematics and EVS, Class 8 students were tested for Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Science, and Class 10 students for Mathematics, Science, The test was done for Social Science and English. ,

A press release issued by the ministry said, “The objective of NAS 2021 is to assess the progress and learning ability of children as an indicator of the efficiency of the education system, so that appropriate steps can be taken for remedial action at various levels.” “

The nationwide survey was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) using a single-day OMR-based test consisting of multiple choice questions (MCQs).

Drop in average marks in higher classes

The national average score for all levels (classes 3, 5, 8 and 10) and subjects was found to be lower than the previous National Achievement Survey conducted in 2017.

For example, the national average score for language for Class 3 students last year was 326, compared to 336 in 2017. Similarly, the average math score for Class 3 students was 306 – down from 321 in 2017.

Another important measure of NAS 2021 – the learning ability of children was found to decline as they progressed to higher classes.

For example, when assessed out of 500 marks in each subject, Class 3 students scored higher than Class 8 or 10 in all subjects – for Class 3 students (306), for Class 5 students This is evident from the difference in the national average scores for Mathematics. (284), Class 8 students (255), and Class 10 students (220).

But the state-wise and district-wise findings of the survey also show that students performed better than the national average at all levels in several states/UTs including Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Kerala.

The survey, conducted during the closure of schools, also asked students whether they faced any difficulty while studying from home.

Of those surveyed, 24 percent said they didn’t have access to a device at home that they could use to study, 80 percent said they could have learned better in school, and 70 percent said Said he had a lot of time to learn. New things at home.
