“Chak De Phatte, Bharat”: Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu Says After Win

Chandigarh’s Harnaaz Sandhu won the Miss Universe 2021 title.

Moments after she was crowned Miss Universe, India’s Harnaaz Sandhu, could hardly contain her joy, cried out, “Chak De Phatte, India. Chak De PhatteThe clip was shared online from the official Twitter handle of Miss Universe with the caption: “Who are you?” The clip begins with Ms. Sandhu saying, “Chak De Phatte, IndiaShe is then asked, “Who are you?” To which she replies, “I am Miss Universe 2021,” which is repeated amidst cheers by her fellow contestants. Ms. Sandhu in Elliot, Israel on Monday The winner was crowned at the 70th Miss Universe 2021 held.

Harnaaz Sandhu won the coveted Miss Universe title 21 years after Lara Dutta’s victory in 2000. While the victory gave Indians around the world a reason to celebrate, it was Ms Sandhu’s post-win video that took the internet by storm. An extremely overwhelmed Ms. Sandhu burst into tears when she was declared the winner.

The video of the special moment went viral in no time. It has been viewed more than 1.2 lakh times so far.

Ms. Sandhu, a 21-year-old model from Chandigarh, secured the first position by defeating Nadia Ferreira of Paraguay and Lalela Maswane of South Africa to claim the first position in the competition.

During the final question-and-answer round, Ms. Sandhu was asked what advice she would give young women to deal with today’s pressures. To this he replied that believing in oneself, finding them unique, what makes them attractive, is the biggest pressure on today’s youth. He also urged the youth to stop comparing themselves to others and focus on the more pressing issues across the world.

Ms. Sandhu started her beauty pageant journey only at the age of 17. She was previously crowned Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, and also made it to the top 12 in Femina Miss India 2019.

Before her, only two Indians have won the title of Miss Universe. While Sushmita Sen was crowned the winner in 1994, Lara Dutta won it six years later in 2000.

At the end of the event, Andrea Meza of Mexico, who is currently the Miss Universe title holder, presented her crown to her successor, Ms. Sandhu.
