Chamarajanagar to host four-day Dussehra this year

Local artists will be invited to perform in the program: Minister in charge of the district

This year’s Dussehra will be held for four days in Chamarajanagar and district officials have been asked to make arrangements keeping in mind the pandemic situation.

In-charge of Mysore and Chamarajanagar ST Somashekar said that the festivities will begin from October 7 and officials have been asked to make all preparations to ensure smooth conduct of the events.

The minister, who held a meeting with the district administration in Bengaluru on Wednesday, said artists deprived of opportunities to perform in Dussehra events would be invited in view of the pandemic situation. The officials have been asked to organize cultural programs by taking all necessary precautions.

The cost of illumination is to be borne by the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) and arrangements have to be made by taking the local MLAs and MPs and other elected representatives into confidence.

Mr. Somashekar said that the festival is to be inaugurated on October 7 at the scheduled time and added that there should be no lapse in all the events focused at the district headquarters.

Deputy Commissioner MR Ravi said an estimate of ₹50 lakh would be prepared for the events and added that if CESC takes care of the Roshni expenditure then there will be no financial constraint in the conduct of the festival. He said that apart from lights in district headquarters, taluk centers would also be illuminated with the help of sponsors.
