NEW DELHI: Chandigarh-bound Go First flight on Thursday returned to Ahmedabad airport after it was hit by a suspected bird after takeoff.
A320 aircraft operating flight G8911 departed Ahmedabad at 6.18 a.m., climbed to 14,000 feet to make a turn, completed a circuit, and landed back an hour later.
Director General of Civil Aviation Arun Kumar said the left-hand engine is likely to be hit.
“Air turn back is being investigated,” he said.
Go First’s statement is awaited.

A large number of birds collide at the Ahmedabad airport, although this number has come down in the last two years as air traffic has come down during the Covid period.
Pre-pandemic however the number of bird hits reported at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport was higher.
A large number of flights were forced to return after being hit by a bird.
To reduce the number of these incidents, at the time, the airport procured special mowers that cut grass so that traces of insects and their larvae would not remain on the ground for the birds to eat.
Specialized acoustic equipment including a zone gun, hooter and six shot launcher were also used in addition to the traditional methods used by a team of bird chasers.
